NEW VDJ 70 SERIES LANDCRUISER UPGRADE
Xtreme Outback says its new 70 Series Self-Adjusting Upgrade Clutch is redefining off-road power

Xtreme Outback, the off-road 4×4 performance division of Australian Clutch Services (ACS), has unveiled what it describes as a “game changing clutch upgrade” specifically engineered for highly modified 70 Series VDJ LandCruiser models.
Xtreme Outback says the new upgrade utilises a self-adjusting pressure plate, a “never before seen mechanism for this application”, promoting consistent pedal engagement point and pressure plate performance over the lifecycle of the upgrade.
Xtreme Outback have dubbed this new upgrade the “Xtreme Outback X-Series” and it is available in either a steel backed sprung organic friction material, or a steel backed dual friction option (one side organic, ceramic on the other).
It states these options deliver peak torque ratings of 1080 Nm and 1530 Nm respectively, with torque figures of 870 Nm and 1225 Nm recommended for optimal long-term durability.
Each X-Series kit includes a 1600kg clamping force self-adjusting pressure plate, S45 steel flywheel, steel-backed friction disc, specially engineered slave cylinder for optimal pedal engagement, braided clutch line, release and pilot bearings, pressure plate and flywheel bolts, and a signature Xtreme Clutch alloy alignment tool.
The game changing self-adjusting pressure plate features an internal ratcheting system that compensates for clutch disc wear over time, ensuring a consistent pedal engagement point and overall performance throughout the product’s lifespan.
The steel-backed disc design enhances durability and torque handling, with the organic option offering superior everyday driveability, and the dual-friction disc suiting very high-power builds whilst still retaining good driveability.
Xtreme Outback is the performance 4×4 division of Australian Clutch Services (ACS) and specialises in high performance upgrades for a range of off-road vehicles throughout Australia and Europe.
This new VDJ upgrade adds to an already comprehensive offering for the vehicle, including heavy-duty and extra heavy-duty options with various friction-disc configurations.
ACS advises that this new upgrade is in line with the evolution of 70 series LandCruiser tuning throughout Australia.
“We have extensively developed this upgrade to change the game with high performance VDJ upgrades,” ACS Product Manager, Colin Jevons, said.
“Our extra heavy-duty upgrade has been a massively popular upgrade for heavily tuned vehicles, but as the tuning market has continued to evolve, we received feedback from the market that an even higher torque capacity was required for vehicles with larger injectors, turbos and intercooler upgrades.
“The market needed an option that not only provided a massive torque capacity, but also excellent driveability for street use.”
Colin says that these new upgrades, combined with their extensive range of direct fit upgrades for the factory flywheel, give performance options to suit all levels of 70 Series tuning.
“The addition of the Xtreme Outback X-Series upgrade for these vehicles adds to our existing range of upgrades that are direct fit to the factory flywheel,” Colin said.
“This gives our customers excellent choice and customisation to ensure they get the right clutch for their needs.”
The new Xtreme Outback X-Series upgrades are suitable for vehicles with 100 percent (organic) and 185 percent (dual friction) increase in torque at the engine and are available through the Australian Clutch Services nationwide distribution network.
