DELPHI AUTOMOTIVE AIR CONDITIONING
The company has grown from an early pioneer to a modern innovator

With more than 100 years of automotive component development expertise and a proud heritage of thermal design innovation, Delphi says it is a name synonymous with Automotive Air Conditioning (A/C) and Thermal Control.
Delphi is part of Phinia, a specialist global automotive components supplier.
Phinia is a newer name in the automotive industry, having been spun off from BorgWarner in 2023.
Since inception, Phinia has quickly gained market share with its premium product ranges from Delphi, Delco Remy, and Hartridge.
According to those behind the company, design and innovation have always been a common thread in the evolution of Delphi.
All the way back in 1954, Delphi, at that time known as Harrison Radiator, the thermal division of General Motors, developed the first ever under-bonnet automotive air conditioning system.
Delphi describes this system as “a major design breakthrough that set the benchmark for how vehicle manufacturers configured A/C systems,” and states that most modern automotive A/C system are based on the Delphi design fundamentals.
It explains that prior to Delphi’s under-bonnet design, early rudimentary A/C systems had large components hanging out from the side window and fitted in the boot space.
The under-bonnet A/C design set Delphi on a path that saw it become a market leader in the supply of OE A/C systems and components such as the widely used V5 and V7 compressors.
These Delphi variable displacement compressors improved fuel economy and reduced emissions over the traditional fixed displacement clutched compressors.
Today Phinia remains an OEM supplier for product categories such as advanced fuel and electrical systems.
For A/C and thermal Delphi continues to innovate by providing A/C products that meet the needs of the independent aftermarket as well as supplying OE HVAC components for on highway trucks made in Australia.
Delphi offers an expanding range of Compressors, Condensers as well as other thermal control components to suit passenger and commercial vehicles and states it is strongly committed to OE quality and processes.
As such, it explains that every Delphi part must pass a rigorous production part approval process (PPAP) before being released to the market.
A recent addition to the Delphi A/C range is a re-engineered and much sought after Holden VZ Commodore V8 compressor.
