DELPHI INTERCOOLERS
‘Thermal is in our DNA,’ says Delphi

An intercooler is a heat exchanger used in vehicles with forced induction systems such as turbochargers or superchargers to cool compressed air before it enters the engine.
By reducing air temperature, the intercooler increases air density, which improves combustion efficiency, power output, and fuel economy.
Intercoolers, or charge air coolers as they are sometimes referred to, are similar in construction to radiators and condensers in that they have cooling passages, fins, and inlet/outlet manifolds.
They are typically mounted in the front grille of the vehicle (front-mount) or on top of the engine (top-mount).
They can also be mounted in other locations such as the engine compartment of buses.
Intercoolers require airflow for optimal heat dissipation; this can be via ram air, cooling fans or a combination of both.
Hot air from the turbocharger enters the intercooler, releasing heat as it passes through the cooler before exiting into the engine intake.
Why do vehicle manufacturers fit intercoolers?
Turbochargers and superchargers compress intake air to increase engine power. However, compression generates heat, which reduces oxygen density.
The intercooler lowers the temperature, providing cooler, denser, oxygen-rich air for combustion. This results in improved engine performance and power output, better fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.
Delphi intercoolers
Delphi explains that it has decades of experience designing and supplying OE-quality intercoolers for global vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket.
Delphi intercoolers were OE fitment in popular Holden models in Australia, as well as various global platform vehicle applications.
Delphi says its intercoolers continue to cover a wide range of passenger and 4WD vehicles and are engineered and validated to meet or exceed original equipment standards for fit and function; durability; and thermal efficiency and heat dissipation.
