KEEPING VEHICLES LEVEL

The link between suspension, safety and performance

Australia’s love for 4WD and utes continues to grow, with these vehicles becoming increasingly popular among drivers who need versatility for work, family, and adventures.
Modern 4WD and ute owners are asking more from their vehicles than ever before. From towing caravans and accessories to carrying camping gears, these added loads place greater demands on suspension systems.
These added loads can result in rear end sagging, poor steering, and braking, increased stopping distances, reduced stability and control, and premature suspension and tyre wear.
Maintaining the correct ride height and consistent vehicle behaviour across different load scenarios is essential for vehicle safety and performance.
Airbag Man Managing Director, Ben Clamp, says decades of experience in heavy transport have directly shaped the company’s product development.
“Over the last 30 years, a lot of product development has come directly from real-world transport experience and dealing with customers in that area,” Ben said.
Air suspension helper systems are designed to support load stability across a wide range of vehicle types, including 4WDs, utes, caravans, and trucks.
These systems assist in maintaining ride height under load, improving stability while under load, and reducing uneven wear across suspension and tyre components.
Ben said the benefits extend beyond load support alone.
“They reduce suspension wear, which delivers cost savings,” Ben said.
“They also reduce uneven tyre wear and driver fatigue. Most importantly, you’re not having vehicles off the road due to downtime, which can be very costly for heavy vehicle operators.”
For 4WD owners and touring enthusiasts, maintaining the correct height can also improve ride quality by reducing suspension bottoming out and helping vehicles perform more consistently across different conditions.
Ben added that a good benefit of maintaining the correct ride height can also improve overall vehicle efficiency.
“Maintaining correct ride height and managing uneven loads all adds up to improved fuel efficiency as well, so saving fuel and costs in that area is a really strong benefit,” Ben said.
Since 1995, Airbag Man has been an Australian manufacturer of air suspension systems.
The company designs and produces high-quality solutions for a wide range of applications, including light vehicles (4×4 and 4×2), heavy vehicles, trailers, caravans, motorhomes, providing safe and effective load management.
