VICTORIAN MOTORSPORTS PARK USHERS IN A NEW ERA FOR AUSTRALIAN DRAG RACING
The venue will also host roll racing, burnout competitions, and horsepower festivals alongside traditional drag racing
After almost 50 years at the heart of Australian drag racing, Heathcote Park Raceway has entered a new era as Victorian Motorsports Park (VMP).
The historic venue has been acquired by a group of respected racers, business owners, and motorsport enthusiasts committed to preserving its legacy while investing in its future.
Originally opened in 1977, the venue became a cornerstone of Australian drag racing under the ownership of John Walsh, Gary French, and Brad Parker, while long time manager Russell Clarke oversaw its operation for more than 30 years.
In January 2026, the facility was acquired by Wally and Lyn Szabolics, Daniel and Sandy Szabolics, and John and Lauren Ricca.
Together, the group brings extensive experience across elite drag racing, construction, automotive business, and major motorsport events.
Wally Szabolics is the owner of Szabolics Construction and campaigns the 3,800hp ‘BOLICS’ HQ; Daniel Szabolics races one of Australia’s quickest radial Pro Mods both locally and internationally; while John Ricca, world record holding Pro Mod racer, owner of Race Parts Melbourne and partner in Tuff Streeters, brings decades of motorsport and industry leadership to the project.
Over the past six months, the team has been working seven days a week to transform the facility.
Major upgrades include resurfacing the pit area, refurbishing amenities, preparing the quarter mile racing surface, raising the burnout pad, constructing a new drift track, and improving spectator facilities, parking and overall site presentation.
The redevelopment is already reflected in a packed upcoming calendar, with King of the Street, NDRC Sportsman Southern Slam, Melbourne Jamboree, Drag Challenge, Holden Drag Nationals, The Rod Shop Invitational, Bangers and Mash Nostalgia Drags, and the exciting return of Easternats over Easter 2027.
Earlier this year, Tuff Streeters acquired the iconic Easternats brand, which will also begin its next chapter at VMP.
“Victorian Motorsports Park is about more than bringing a track back to life,” John Ricca said.
“It is about creating a venue the entire industry can be proud of, preserving the history of Heathcote while investing in its future.
“We’re building a facility that racers, families and enthusiasts can enjoy for generations to come,” he added, while noting the team thanks its sponsors, industry partners, contractors and volunteers for their incredible support throughout the redevelopment.
