A TRUSTED PARTNER

More than four decades after it began, Global Lubricant Distributors continues to grow alongside the industries and businesses of Northern NSW

When Global Lubricant Distributors (GLD) began in 1983, the business was built around a straightforward idea: supply quality products and look after the customers who rely on them.
More than 40 years later, a great deal has changed. The product range has expanded; the business now operates across four locations; and the volume of lubricant moving through GLD has grown significantly.
Today, the family-owned business operates from Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, and Tamworth, supplying customers across the automotive, transport, agriculture, earthmoving, workshop, and industrial sectors.

More than lubricants
While lubricants remain at the heart of GLD, the business today is considerably broader than its name might suggest.
Its range includes engine, hydraulic, transmission, and gear oils, greases, coolants, and specialist lubricants, together with filtration, fluid handling equipment, pumps, hoses and reels, workshop equipment, cleaning products, and other maintenance essentials.
Customers can source individual products through to larger-volume and bulk lubricant requirements, with the GLD team helping identify suitable products and practical solutions for the equipment and application involved.
GLD also offers on-site bulk lubricant top-ups, providing a convenient option for businesses managing larger volumes.

The right product for the job
Modern machinery has changed considerably since GLD first opened its doors. Engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and emissions technology have become increasingly sophisticated, and lubricant specifications have evolved alongside them.
“Choosing a product is no longer simply a matter of finding the right viscosity on the shelf. Manufacturer requirements, operating temperatures, loads, service intervals, and working conditions can all influence the correct choice,” GLD Marketing and Business Development Manager, Chloe Robinson, said.
“We work with leading brands including Castrol, BP, Total, Fleetguard, and Macnaught, giving customers access to products across lubrication, filtration, and fluid handling applications.
“For customers, the value is not simply having access to recognised brands. It is also being able to speak to people who understand the products and can help navigate the options.
“That might mean identifying the appropriate hydraulic oil for a machine, working through the lubrication requirements of a fleet, sourcing filtration products, or setting up pumps and reels to make fluid handling within a workshop more efficient.”

Supporting Northern NSW industries
One of GLD’s strengths is the diversity of the region it services.
Northern NSW supports major automotive, agricultural, transport, earthmoving, and industrial operations alongside hundreds of independent workshops and family-owned businesses, and each has different requirements.
“Transport operators depend on vehicles remaining on the road. Workshops need ready access to products across numerous makes and models, while earthmoving and industrial customers often operate equipment under demanding loads and conditions,” Chloe said.
“For agricultural customers, seasonal workloads can mean machinery needs to perform reliably for long periods when timing is critical.
“Working across these industries for more than four decades has given GLD an understanding of the practical realities behind the products it supplies.
“It has also allowed us to grow alongside our customers. Some relationships begin with a simple product requirement and develop as a customer’s operation expands. Others span years as businesses change equipment, increase fleets or introduce different lubricant and dispensing requirements.”

Local reach, backed by experience
GLD’s four locations provide a strong footprint across Northern NSW while allowing the business to retain the local connection on which it was built.
From Lismore and the Northern Rivers, through Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast, to Tamworth and the New England North West, GLD supports customers across a large and varied geographic area.
“Being regional also means understanding that supply requirements don’t always fit neatly into a standard retail model,” Chloe said.
“A breakdown, busy harvest period, or workshop running short of an essential product can quickly become an operational problem.
“Having stock, product knowledge and people who understand the customer’s requirements can make a genuine difference.”

Looking to the future
After more than 40 years, GLD continues to evolve.
New equipment brings new lubricant specifications, technology advances, and customers increasingly look for ways to simplify purchasing and consolidate products through suppliers they know and trust.
“For GLD, that means continuing to develop our product range, knowledge, and services while remaining connected to the businesses and communities that have supported us along the way,” Chloe said.
“From a mechanic needing the right oil or filter, to a farm preparing machinery for the season ahead, or a commercial operation managing lubricant requirements across an entire fleet, GLD has grown to support a broad range of customers.
“Six times the lubricant volume of 15 years ago and four locations across Northern NSW tell part of the story. More than four decades of customer relationships tell the rest.”
