BILSTEIN POWERING UNIQUE VEHICLE DYNAMICS FOR PORSCHE

Bilstein supplies its DampTronic technology for aftermarket and OE

Bilstein says the special vehicle dynamics of the latest Porsche 911, the 992, are ensured by the fundamentally revised PASM suspension (Porsche Active Suspension Management) which Porsche developed together with the shock absorber expert.
Bilstein says its DampTronic X dampers, which celebrated their premiere in the 992 and are now also available in the aftermarket, have a significant influence on the increased vehicle dynamics.
Moreover, the company states that it offers a further upgrade to the vehicle dynamics of the Porsche 911 992 series with the Bilstein Evo SE Porsche coilover suspension.
The new development of the PASM for the latest 911 aimed to achieve a significantly greater spread between agility and ride comfort in order to have more options to characterise the car.
Bilstein reports that it helped to resolve this conflict between ride comfort and agility with a new technology: equipping the new DampTronic X shock absorbers with rapid switching adjustment valves.
It states the highly dynamic adjustment enables the required damping forces to be adapted to the damping requirement determined by the central control unit in just a few milliseconds.
The control concept calculates and adjusts the damping several hundred times per second depending on the driving situation and selectively for each wheel.
Bilstein says the result is improved agility and ride comfort, combined with optimal characteristics for safe driving.
The steel spring with electronic damper combines two suspensions in one: a sporty, comfortable one for long tours and a sporty, dynamic one for the racetrack.
Compared to its predecessor, the Porsche 991, the damping force in the standard suspension of the Porsche 992 has up to 40 percent more spread, according to Bilstein, which states: “that’s saying something, because the 991 already offered excellent values. Now the driver can now look forward to even more agility, even more comfort and even more driving safety.”
Bilstein states that its shock absorbers are 100 percent PASM compatible, and so are the perfect choice for these Porsche models.
Further, the company states that its Evo SE Porsche coilover suspension further improves the look and the vehicle dynamics of the Porsche 911.
Lowering up to 35mm – with residual thread and parts certificate – lowers the centre of gravity and gives the 911 a facelift. Thus, the Bilstein Evo SE coilover suspension reportedly allows for higher cornering speeds and gives experienced sports drivers a touch more directness.
Thanks to the original Bilstein DampTronic X technology, which is already used in the OE product, the upgrade is fully compatible with the latest PASM and can therefore be fitted easily using the plug-and-play method.
According to Bilstein, “the big advantage is that despite more accurate handling and better traction control, the coilover suspension remains impressively comfortable.”
