BILSTEIN’S ANSWER TO THE EV BOOM

Electric vehicles are no longer a niche choice in Australia – they are becoming mainstream at record speed

Battery electric vehicles capture a continuously growing share of new car sales, and Chinese brands account for a significant share of that growth.
BYD’s market share has climbed sharply and its models – especially the Seal – are an increasingly familiar sight on Australian streets, in commuter car parks as much as on suburban driveways.
For workshops and spare parts dealers, Bilstein says this fast-changing fleet of vehicles raises a practical question: who can reliably supply OE-quality suspension parts as the line-up keeps expanding?
At the same time, demanding drivers often look for ways to sharpen the handling and comfort of their Chinese models.
Bilstein says it has the answer for both, stating it has the largest product range for electric vehicles on the market, so workshops can count on parts being available whatever EV rolls in.
Aftermarket applications are already available for popular Chinese models such as the BYD Seal, with further models set to follow as the range grows.
The Bilstein B6 is, for example, available for the BYD Seal, addressing drivers who want to improve the driving behaviour of their Chinese-built BEV.
Bilstein explains it is designed as an improved replacement for the OE shock absorber, engineered to deliver greater driving pleasure and safety.
The Bilstein B6 features its own characteristic damping curves, developed precisely for each vehicle and determined through road tests.
Compared with the standard shock absorber, Bilstein says it delivers a higher damping force for more precise handling.
The suspension specialist says the B6 also handles heavy loads, such as a rear-mounted bike carrier, much better than the standard OE shock absorber.
Bilstein says the yellow high-performance shock absorber is not only “developed and manufactured to the highest OE quality standards under strict quality assurance but also matches the OE design of its outer casing.”
It states this means the upgrade is straightforward: the shock absorber enables plug-and-play installation and is as easy to mount as the original one.
Further, thanks to its functional OE dimensions, the Bilstein B6 shock absorber is height-neutral and does not require registration.
Since the B6 upgrade uses the original spring, ground clearance stays at OE level, which Bilstein says is reassuring for EV owners who are often wary of lowering their vehicle for fear of damaging the battery pack underneath.
For workshops and dealers, Bilstein says relying on its products offers a practical advantage: a single, well-supported product family which provides a consistent, structured basis for sourcing and advice as more Chinese brands and models enter the market.
