DAYCO DAVE DOMINATES AT BATHURST
Dave Russell claimed both the Carrera Cup Australia event win and third in the Bathurst 1000

Dayco racer David Russell was in fine double duty form at Mount Panorama, charging to his second Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship round victory in style before standing on the Supercars Bathurst 1000 podium.
In the Carrera Cup, he clean swept all three races for the first time in his career to deliver a perfect performance for the TekworkX Motorsport team.
The result saw the Dayco Ambassador come in reach of the battle for 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia supremacy, which continued at Surfers Paradise from October 22 to 24 and will conclude on the streets of Adelaide from November 27 to 30.
“It was an incredible round for myself and the TekworkX team. We worked hard to tune the car to be better balanced for each of the three races and we certainly achieved that. We now head to the final two rounds with a fantastic car and team so I’ll be doing all I can to gain another top three Carrera Cup Championship finish,” David said after the event.
In the Supercars, David enjoyed his 16th Bathurst 1000 and his second with PremiAir Racing as partner to James Golding, including racing into the lead with speed and precise car control under challenging weather conditions from a starting position of 13th.
James was fighting for the lead in the closing stages, making a bold overtaking move on race leader Cooper Murray with five laps to go, making contact in the process.
The incident handed the lead to eventual race winner Matt Payne and resulted in a post-race five second penalty for James – who managed to overtake Matt to be first on the road at the line and ensure he and Dave could still be on the podium in third place by making up the gap required, doing so by just 0.6 seconds.
This result marked David’s third Great Race podium, having finished second in 2023 and third in 2021 with Brodie Kostecki. It was the first Bathurst 10000 podium for James and PremiAir Racing and the team’s second podium overall.
“Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions for the Bathurst 1000!” David said.
“I am so proud of the team and all their preparation, and so proud of Jimmy. He did an amazing job out there in those conditions, he was so fast and he had a crack – he had to go for it, we were trying to win the Bathurst 1000! So, to rebound off that and build enough of a gap to overcome a five second penalty to still end up on the podium at Bathurst was no mean feat.”
