IRONMAN 4X4 BYD SHARK 6 GVM UPGRADES
Ironman 4×4 GVM upgrades for BYD Shark 6 pushes the PHEV Ute into the one-tonne class

Ironman 4×4, one of Australia’s most trusted names in off-road and load-carrying solutions, has officially launched what it says is the first Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) Upgrade available for the BYD Shark 6, marking a significant leap in capability for the PHEV ute.
Ironman 4×4 has been closely affiliated with the BYD Shark 6 since launch, offering its full range of Shark 6 accessories exclusively through the Australian BYD website and dealer group.
Ironman 4×4 says its GVM upgrade marks a significant milestone as the first certified GVM upgrade available for the BYD Shark 6.
GVM upgrades can only be installed by accredited service centres, therefore the upgrade program will be offered through the Ironman 4×4 store network.
The release includes four kits – two pre-registration and two post-registration options – which give BYD Shark 6 owners more capability, payload, and confidence, whether they’re hauling tools, towing caravans, or touring off the beaten track.
For pre-registration and post-registration vehicles:
• Medium Kit: suited for customers who need additional payload for occasional loads up to 3850kg.
• Heavy Kit: suited for customers carrying a constant load of 300kg+ over an unladen vehicle.
• Extra Heavy Kit: engineered for constant loads of 600kg+ over an unladen vehicle.
Where pre-registration kits offer nationally recognised federal approval, post-registration kits enable current Shark 6 owners to upgrade their capability within the limits of state regulations.
All four kits deliver a significant GVM increase from 3,500kg to 3,850kg, boosting payload from 790kg to 1,140kg (an increase of 350kg), officially placing the BYD Shark 6 in the coveted one-tonne ute class.
Key technical upgrades include:
• Front axle capacity: increased from 1,610kg to 1,800kg
• Rear axle capacity: increased from 1,954kg to 2,150kg
• IM2.5 Monotube Shock Absorbers: high-performance monotube dampers featuring a large piston diameter for improved heat dissipation, precise damping control, and enhanced ride quality under heavy load
“Australia’s ute market is fiercely competitive, and the BYD Shark 6 is already turning heads in the PHEV space,” Ironman 4×4 Chief Operating Officer, Matt Frost, said.
“With our GVM upgrades, owners can now match electric innovation with genuine one-tonne capability without sacrificing comfort, safety, or performance.”
