NEW TECHNOLOGY SHINES AT TAIPEI AMPA TRADE SHOW

The Taipei AMPA show was held in April

The production quality of the products at the Automotive and Motorcycle Parts and Accessories Trade Show (AMPA) shows Six Sigma quality control, with nothing less than OE standard, up to high performance standard.
“Even our PRT Council members would be impressed,” AAAA Membership Development Manager, Daniel Nelson, said.
Daniel was on-hand at the show and provides the following review of his experience.
“It’s still surprising how clean and organised Taipei is, for a leading industrial city, and how polite the Taiwanese population is. This is compared to Melbourne, my home city,” Daniel said.
“The nature of the population is one of the reasons manufacturing is so strong in Taiwan. It is a poster culture for good organisational behaviour. Its people don’t cut corners, even when crossing the street.”
AMPA, E-Mobility, and Autotronic exhibitions are held together over four days to display the whole ecosystem for Automotive, and to discuss future trends.
“Taiwan External Trade Development Chairperson, James Huang, opened the shows with the history of mobility from walking to vehicles, and how the cars of today becoming cleaner, safer, and having more ‘human’ interfaces,” Daniel said.
“Cars are becoming part of the internet grid and constantly collecting data. With this innovation comes the responsibility of using and storing the data.”
Daniel notes the following as just some of the show’s highlights.

Vehicle to Everything (V2X)
Vehicle to Everything (V2X) technology development is being guided by the Taiwan Telematics Industry Association, to deliver remote diagnostics, over the air vehicle software updates (OTA), in-vehicle apps, and autonomous driving functions.
There are UN standards for over the air updates: working party WP 29 protecting individuals when processing personal data, and regulation R156 for vehicle software updates. China has a national OTA standard in their GB standards system.

Self-driving vehicles
A cyber connected and radar guided Level 3 self-driving bus has been developed by Taiwan’s Automotive Research and Testing Centre (ARTC), using self-navigation, lane changing, and obstacle avoidance to comply with European regulation, UNECE R157 for automated lane keeping systems.
The electric bus is reported to reduce accident rates by 90 percent.
“A reduction of 100 percent of incidents, delivered 100 percent of the time, would be the target in Australia to overcome legal and social concerns,” Daniel said.

450kW Direct Drive Motor
The 4,500 Nm unit with 600hp+ peak horsepower has just been released by Master Bus for Intercity

Coaches and City Buses.
Master have manufactured 400 electric buses for use in Taiwan. The lithium-titanium-oxide batteries in these buses can be recharged from 20 percent to 80 percent in 15 minutes.

Holographic Projection
E-LEAD Electronics 3D projection inside the car has evolved from traditional head-up displays. Currently head-up images look like they’re on the screen, or over the bonnet.
“The image is amazing to see but doesn’t photograph well. The display is a cartoon like person moving to the music,” explains Daniel.
“There are plans for a 3D AI assistant. We suggest it could become something useful, like a 3D inclinometer for 4WD pitch and roll angles.”

Innovation by simplification
Texas Instruments are developing their System on Chip (SoC) computing to manage the data coming from the increasing number of sensors in new vehicles.
“The aim is to streamline the design to be less complicated. Texas claim that decreasing the complexity will reduce the cost of production and should allow for easier and cheaper module replacement,” Daniel said.
“The new computing architecture will put control modules in zones, so the whole BCM or PCM doesn’t need to be replaced if a fault occurs. This is great news to workshops that have quoted on a new ABS or ECU recently.”

New AM lighting features
Niken have incorporated some features found in high spec OE headlights into their AM light bars, with Automatic Turning Beam with steering in one model, and Safety Auto Dipping using a LiDAR sensor in another.

An impressive display
“Taipei AMPA is a powerfully impressive exhibition of Automotive and Motorcycle Parts and Accessories: Components, Tools, and Services,” Daniel summarises.
“Now that the show is run with E-Mobility Taiwan and Autotronics Taipei, it is a must attend event to explore your sourcing options.
“I am already looking forward to Taipei AMPA, E-Mobility Taiwan, and Autotronics Taipei in April 2026.”
