Mobil 1 5W-50 is said to be ‘number one’ for high-stress applications

Over the last 20-plus years, the automotive industry trend towards ever thinner engine oils has continued, with the OEMs typically opting for viscosities like 5W-40 and 5W-30 – both of which are now commonplace.
Mobil 1 always advises using the OEM specification, however, in older cars that have racked a tonne of miles (and have experienced noticeable engine wear), it says it has been shown they can benefit from using a thicker oil like Mobil 1 5W-50 FS X2.
A 5W-50 is also said to be ideal for classic and collector cars, along with motorsport and punishing driving conditions such as heavy towing.
Mobil 1 5W-50 is safe for use in engines operated under brutal conditions and high operating temperatures.
Even under sustained temperatures of up to 235 degrees Celsius, it reportedly does not suffer from oxidation or breaking down.
Mobil 1 says this makes it ideal for use in competition race engines, along with high-output, turbocharged applications where high-boost levels and extreme temperatures are maintained for extended periods of time.
Mobil 1 explains that as with all of its lubricants, this advanced full synthetic motor oil delivers excellent all-round protection and will keep your engine running like new – even during service intervals as long as 15,000km.
Mobil 1 5W-50’s proprietary blend of ultra-high performance synthetic base stocks is said to not only prevent deposits and sludge build-up for long and clean engine life, but also delivers an exceptionally broad viscosity range – and will maintain that range for the entirety of a typical service interval.
Mobil 1 says this enables Mobil 1 5W-50 FS X2 to deliver unrivalled protection at the extremes of low and high temperatures, as well as under high load, high stress conditions, while simultaneously minimising frictional losses for maximum fuel efficiency and maximum horsepower.
It states it is ideal for use in high-performance turbo-charged and supercharged petrol engines, along with certain diesel multi-valve fuel injected engines as found in passenger cars, SUVs, light vans and trucks.
