SUSPENSION SWAPS

Superformance offers advice on the popular upgrades and what to watch out for

The team at Superformance say they know suspension upgrades are one of the best ways to transform handling and improve ride quality and stance in one hit.
But with so many aftermarket options available, it notes that it is easy to get caught up in the hype and overlook the details.
A common go-to is an independent front suspension system, particularly popular with hot rods and classic trucks.
These kits offer modern features like rack-and-pinion steering, disc brakes, and independent suspension in a compact package.
But the key is quality, says Superformance, which warns that poorly designed kits can throw off steering geometry, while cheap welds or unreinforced frames can create serious safety issues.
Superformance manufactures and installs its own Australian designed and made suspension system kits.
When it comes to coilovers, the appeal lies in height adjustability, sharp handling, and clean packaging. But swapping to coilovers isn’t as simple as picking a part number.
Spring rates must match the car’s weight and use, shock settings should be properly tuned and the mounts must be strong enough to carry full suspension loads, especially in custom builds.
Superformance have partnered with leading brands for over 45 years to supply premium coilover packages to suit every application.
When it comes to chasing traction or rear-end tuning, Superformance says four-link conversions are the way to go.
It states a link-style setup allows for better squat control and adjustability, but layout is everything.
Misplaced mounting points can cause poor handling or driveline issues and some cars will need chassis modifications or reinforcements around the links.
Superformance says that it specialises in four-link suspension components and has a wide range of kits available that are vehicle specific.
For air suspension, airbags offer ride height at the touch of a button, but they come with their own challenges.
Drive height must be set properly to avoid suspension bind, and the system’s reliability hinges on quality parts and clean install work.
Superformance advises that you “don’t cheap out” on compressors, lines, or wiring, as quality is key.
Whatever you want to do, Superformance says it has you covered with “the best brands and the best advice to eliminate any questions you may have on your airbag install.”
“No matter the setup, suspension isn’t the place to improvise. Know your goals, buy the best quality parts and install with care. Get in touch with the team at Superformance to start your suspension upgrade,” Superformance Director, Todd Malseed, said.
