TAKING ON THE WORLD
Edie Thurtell will represent Australia at the WorldSkills International Championships
Recognising emerging talent is vital to the future of Australia’s automotive industry, and mycar says few young technicians are making a bigger impact than third year, mycar Tyre and Auto apprentice, Edie Thurtell.
Not only did Edie claim Gold at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Final, she was also crowned Gold Medallist again in Automotive Technology and awarded the prestigious Best in Nation title at the WorldSkills Australia 2026 Global Skills Challenge.
WorldSkills competitions showcase exceptional technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and commitment to excellence, qualities Edie has demonstrated throughout her apprenticeship.
Her success is a testament to her talent and determination, and to the value of hands-on vocational training and industry mentorship.
The same can be said of Indianna Choma, from Great Lakes Automotive who won silver in the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Final, and Michael Mercer – also from mycar – who claimed bronze in the competition.
mycar says the exceptional qualities demonstrated by Edie and Michael reflect many of mycar’s 450-plus apprentices: curiosity, resilience, technical capability, and a passion for continuous learning.
Edie will now represent Australia at the 48th WorldSkills International Championships in Shanghai this September.
In doing so, she takes with her the training and support of mycar, particularly from Head of Technical Transformation, Tom Hatch, and the NSW TAFE team, Kirk Trease and Clint Flower.
