LISTENING AND LEARNING FROM INDUSTRY
Group CEO Brad Gannon reflects on Capricorn’s latest State of the Nation Report
For more than 50 years, Capricorn has supported automotive businesses across Australia and New Zealand.
A key part of that support is ensuring our Members’ voices are heard through initiatives like our annual State of the Nation research.
Now in its seventh year, we heard from 989 Capricorn Members and 159 apprentices from across Australia.
The findings reveal an industry continuing to adapt to a changing and increasingly challenging operating environment.
Workforce shortages are no longer the industry’s biggest concern. Instead, cost-of-living pressures and increasingly price-sensitive customers have moved to the top of the list.
However, finding and retaining skilled staff remains a significant challenge, alongside rising parts prices, work-life balance pressures and broader financial constraints.
Despite the challenges, there is room for optimism. Automotive businesses continue to demonstrate remarkable adaptability and determination, while the next generation of industry professionals is bringing fresh energy to the sector.
The insights from this research inform Capricorn’s advocacy priorities and engagement with government.
They also drive the development of solutions for key issues facing Members.
Late last year, as a direct response to the ongoing skill shortage, Capricorn acquired Australian Skilled Migration (ASM) to make it easier for Capricorn Members to access skilled migrant workers.
By listening to our Members and acting on what we learn, we can continue to build a stronger and more sustainable future for the automotive aftermarket. Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey.
