A NEW WAY TO HANDLE THE HEAT

321 Stainless Steel Mandrel Bends, from Vibrant Performance

Vibrant Performance says it is proud to introduce its all-new line up of 321 Stainless Steel Mandrel Bends.
Compared to 304 alloy, 321 Stainless Steel has better ductility and resistance to stress fractures at elevated temperatures, says Vibrant Performance.
This means it is more reliable for fabricators to work with. In addition, 321 Stainless Steel allows fabricators to take advantage of the increased strength of the material by minimising manifold and header weight.
“Our all new 321 Stainless Steel Mandrel Bends are ideal for applications such as endurance racing, turbo manifolds, high heat and high output performance engines, and rotary headers where the issue of elevated EGTs are common,” Vibrant Performance Regional Sales Manager, Aaron Brookes, said.
“Whereas 304 Stainless Steel is susceptible to heat stress fractures and failures, 321 Stainless Steel maintains its strength through temperature ranges above 1400°F (760°C).”
Vibrant Performance 321 Stainless Steel Mandrel Bends are available in 180° U-Bends, 90° UBends and Straight Tubing, with 16-gauge and 18-gauge wall thickness options.
“Our new offering of 321 Stainless Steel Mandrel Bends are characterised by increased tensile strength and superior corrosion resistance, meaning users can expect better strength and reliability at higher temperatures,” Aaron said.

Product usage and compatibility

• 321 Stainless Steel Mandrel Bends can be welded to 304 using a 308L filler or 347 filler rod.
• Always use a 347 welding rod when welding to 321 Stainless Steel.
• Cannot be welded to Titanium.
• See the Vibrant Performance catalogue for its filler rod offerings.

Size and style offerings
• 18 Gauge (0.049”) – recommended for non-load bearing applications, rotary NA headers, supported turbo set ups. Ideal when weight is a concern.
• 16 Gauge (0.065”) – recommended for applications where EGTs are above 1400°F (760°C) but lower than 1800°F (982°C), turbo manifolds and endurance applications.
• 180° and 90° bends along with straight sections available between 1-1/2” to 3.0” diameter tubing.
• Refer to the Vibrant Performance catalogue for details.
